Through the Eyes of Mark, Paulina and Larry

It is a long story, not quite as long as Israel's, but I am still in quarantine. I am totally fine, just some serology testing issues. Larry, Paulina and Mark headed south today with the group to explore Sderot and the surrounding area to see and feel the impact of the terror unleashed by Hamas. From Hamas's founding, as a terror organization, in 1987, one of its defined goals, outlined in its charter, is the destruction of the State of Israel. The southern part of Israel, including this last war with Gaza, has been under constant attack.

Yet, Israelis are so incredibly strong and resistant, with the help of communities around the globe and right here in Israel.

The day began with a thorough security briefing from Major General Giora Eiland, who shared insights about Iran, Lebanon, Gaza and the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. He offered interesting thoughts and new perspectives on each of the situations.

The group met with mayors and leadership from the area to share the true challenges facing the communities of the south. Representatives from the Israel Trauma Coalition (ITC), who have also helped in tragedies in the United States, shared their perspective on the ongoing impact of living in such a tense environment. There is no other way to say it, life is hard, in the south.

The most poignant visit was to the parents of Ido Avigal. Paulina wrote, "His parents were so brave & strong to have us come into their home and tell us their story"

Ido's home is below:

I will see Mark, Paulina, and Larry later today and talk to them about the day to gather their thoughts and feelings, on a very emotional day. More to come...
